National Tree Day to Enhance School’s Environment and Education
As part of the National Tree Day celebration of the environment, Broadbeach Primary School students will also commemorate the Australian culture by planting Aboriginal bush tucker seedlings.
Since the school children are currently learning about Aboriginal food and culture, National Tree Day provided a good opportunity to further the students’ appreciation of Aboriginal bush tucker.
Pacific Fair Shopping Centre is supporting the school’s 2008 National Tree Day campaign by providing the bush tucker seedlings and plants, together with fertiliser and mulch and reference books so the children can monitor the garden’s progress as part of their social studies subject.
Pacific Fair Retail Marketing Manager Kate Cox said the Centre chose to sponsor Broadbeach Primary because of its commitment to improving the school’s natural environment.
“Broadbeach Primary has been an active participant in the National Tree Day campaign for the past four years. It is fantastic to see that this year the school will use the annual planting exercise to enhance both the students’ environment and education with its Aboriginal bush tucker garden,” said Ms Cox.
