Kids Read On
Saturday, May 17th, 2008Avid Child Readers To Dine With Top Authors
One hundred lucky children will have the chance to brush shoulders with top Australian children’s authors over breakfast at Pacific Fair.
The winners of the Gold Coast City Council (GCCC) Library’s competition Junior Read On! will be dining with author Matt Dray, author and illustrator Stephen Axelson and illustrator Kim Toft.
Pacific Fair has partnered with the GCCC Library to host this special event as part of the nationwide celebration Library and Information Week.
Since March, children aged six to 12 years have been avidly reading books to qualify for the competition, which required the children to fill out an entry form outlining the six books they have read.
The lucky winners will dine with local author Dray who is famous for his tales of Dougal the teddy bear, Axelson who is perhaps best known for his Blinky Bill book illustrations and award-winning illustrator Kim Toft whose silk artworks have earned her international recognition.
Pacific Fair Retail Marketing Manager Kate Cox said the Junior Read On! event provided a wonderful opportunity for the Centre to throw their support behind a great community service.
“The local library is such an important community institution and we are delighted to team up with the Gold Coast City Council Library to host the Junior Read On! breakfast,” Ms Cox said.
“We at Pacific Fair see our role with Junior Read On! as not only encouraging children to read more books but to applaud those that have been supporting their local library all this time.”
