Expert Formal Stylist
Wednesday, September 17th, 2008STYLIST EXPERTISE FOR FORMAL SEASON
Sweeping fringes and soft curls will be the chic hairstyle at school formals this season according to Michael Dib Pacific Fair stylist and ghd Expert Innovation Awards finalist Kerrie Duffy.
Duffy, who has just returned from the national ghd expert tour, said soft curls have been high on the wish list of many ladies, particularly those wishing to glam it up for their school formal.
“This year we are seeing lots of curls but curls that are a lot softer with more of a wavy look. A popular style is soft curls pinned to the sides with sweeping fringes,” Duffy said.
According to the Michael Dib Pacific Fair senior stylist, many girls are getting a lot savvier in the style stakes, with many sidestepping the obvious red carpet dos and instead studying the catwalks of the world for hairstyle inspiration.
“Most inspiration comes straight from the catwalk,” Duffy said. “A lot of girls are watching fashion TV, which really helps as the fashion designer parades are setting the trends for fashion as well as hair.”
“There has also been an increase in the number of manicure bookings, with most girls opting for the sophisticated French polish to complete their look,” she said.
This formal season Duffy, who recently styled a shoot for Australia’s Next Top Model, is also preparing to tame the locks of lads who are keen to put just as much preparation into their big night.
“We are seeing a lot more guys coming into the salon leading up to the formals,” Duffy said. “They often come in for colours and, more often, we have guys coming in to get their hair straightened on the day of their formal. They tend to opt for the longer hair styles that look clean but lived in.”
Duffy said leading up to any big event – whether it be school formal, wedding or ball – she recommended showing the stylist photos of the dress so they can start thinking of ideas for colours or styles to suit face shapes and dress styles.
“It also helps to have finalised your hair colour the week prior and to make sure the colour suits the dress. Regular weekly treatments prior to the event will also give your hair a healthy and shiny glow for the photos,” Duffy said.
