30 IS THE MAGIC NUMBER

Pacific Fair has enjoyed 30 years of success on the Gold Coast and they are returning the favour by immortalising 30 Icons who have shaped and best represent this thriving metropolis.

Pacific Fair, together with the Gold Coast Bulletin, is giving the community the honour of deciding who will appear on canvas in the Pacific Fair 30 Icons Art Exhibition.

The only challenge is for Gold Coast Bulletin readers to narrow the list of 60 famous local identities down to 30 Icons who best symbolise the fun, glamour and lifestyle we enjoy today.

These 30 Gold Coast Icons will be immortalised on canvas by artists from the esteemed Royal Queensland Art Society (RQAS).

Pacific Fair retail marketing manager Kate Cox said it was vitally important the community became involved and offered their opinions on who should go be depicted on canvas as an icon of the Gold Coast.

“The Pacific Fair 30 Icons Art Exhibition is about the Gold Coast community and for the Gold Coast community, so it is vital that everyone has their say on who will go down in history as contributing to our wonderful city,” Ms Cox said.

The Pacific Fair 30 Icons Exhibition will commence with the community’s selection of the 30 Icons. Seventy RQAS artists will then spend two months creating paintings of their assigned subjects. The paintings will be judged by an independent assessor who will select 30 works to go on display at Pacific Fair for the entire month of August. In mid August, Pacific Fair will host a public auction of the 30 paintings with proceeds going to the RQAS artists and charity organisation, The Create Foundation.

Ms Cox said the 30 Icons Exhibition was a celebration of Pacific Fair’s 30 years on the Gold Coast.

“As we pass an important milestone, we thought it pertinent to give back to the community which has helped us become one of the most successful shopping centres in Australia,” Ms Cox said.

“As the Gold Coast’s premier shopping destination, we feel privileged to be part of this vibrant and cosmopolitan community, and we hope to continue playing our very important role in providing to the people of this great city.”

Voting opens Saturday 3 May and closes on Sunday 11 May at 3pm. To vote or to see the list of 60 identities go to www.goldcoast.com.au or vote by cutting out the entry form in Saturday’s Gold Coast Bulletin and sending it in to Pacific Fair Icon, PO Box 7, Pacific Fair QLD 4218.
